Challenges & Objectives

/ Project Overview

This Little Piggy is an Australian independent feature film directed by Tristan Barr. I was commissioned to complete the sound design and final sound mix for the film, working closely with the director to shape the audio landscape across the entire feature.

The project involved translating the film’s emotional tone and narrative tension into a cohesive sound world, balancing realism with subtle stylisation. From early sound concepts through to final delivery, sound was treated as a narrative tool rather than a purely technical layer.

/ Scope of Work

  • Full sound design across the feature
  • Dialogue editing and cleanup
  • Foley integration and sound effects creation
  • Final sound mix and delivery
  • Collaboration with the director throughout post-production

The work spanned several weeks of focused sound development and mixing, refining the film’s sonic detail scene by scene.

/ Approach

The approach prioritised restraint and clarity. Rather than over-designing the soundtrack, the focus was on supporting performance, pacing, and atmosphere. Sound was used to enhance tension and emotional weight without drawing attention away from the story.

Careful attention was given to spatial balance, dynamic range, and continuity, ensuring the mix translated well across cinema screenings and digital formats.

/ Challenges

  • Working within the constraints of an independent film production
  • Maintaining sonic consistency across varied locations and scenes
  • Balancing subtle sound design with narrative impact
  • Delivering a polished final mix within tight post-production timelines

Reflections

This project represents a milestone in my audio work, combining technical execution with narrative sensitivity. It reflects an approach to sound design rooted in listening, restraint, and collaboration, where audio serves the story first.
